Maplewood Public Library

About the Library

The Maplewood Public Library serves the community of Maplewood, Missouri, a near suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 1935, it is one of the oldest libraries in the St. Louis area. The Library belongs to a nine-member cooperative of independent libraries, with reciprocal borrowing privileges. In 1996, these libraries formed the Municipal Library Consortium to implement a shared automation project, providing access to the Internet for their patrons and a combined title catalog for the member libraries.

The Library can give you answers to your questions, plans for your projects, and help with your problems. The Library has books, magazines, newspapers, pamphlets, audiotapes, videos and DVDs.

We offer word processing, Internet access, voter registration cards, shut-in services, a VCR player you can use to view the Library's videos and a copy machine.

Maplewood's history is preserved at the Library in photos, documents, clippings and interviews. Ask about the history video.

Your questions can be answered in our Reference section in person or by phone.

Children up to the age of 18 may obtain a library card with the signature of their parent or guardian.

A weekly Preschool Story Time is offered for 3 - 5 year olds. It's a fun introduction to books and stories, and helps increase a child's attention span.

Each year, the Library sponsors a Summer Reading Club to encourage young readers. Participants keep track of the books they read, and attend special events at the Library.

Other special programs for children are held throughout the year.

All events at the Library are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is usually required.
